SCUBA INSTRUCTION
The underwater world is, for the most part, unexplored. New species of
fish are found every day, as are shipwrecks
and cave
systems. Isn't it time you
were able to participate in this exciting
world?
SCUBA diving is a highly enjoyable, fun sport that the whole family can
experience together. It's also possible to incorporate many personal interests and hobbies such
as photography, fish identification, exploring wrecks and caves, and hunting
into your dive activities. Young and old alike can enjoy the thrill of
submersion and unique adventure that awaits on every dive.
If you are healthy, at a reasonable level of fitness, and comfortable in the water, you are a ideal candidate for SCUBA. My classes begin with students between the ages of 10-14 earning
certification as Junior Open Water Divers. For those 18 years and older, my training can
take you from a Discover SCUBA Diving adventure, all the way to becoming
a SCUBA Professional, or a Technical Diver.
Here's a few of the many
exciting courses I offer (click on class for description):
Ever wondered if SCUBA is for you? This class is designed to give you a "test" experience in the underwater world.
First you will view a short DVD, then we'll jump into a swimming pool where you will receive an overview of SCUBA equipment and get to have some fun in the water. If you find
that you'd like to take this lesson a step further, one open water dive may be added to the class. I will be with you one-on-one in the open water setting where you will be
able to see a number of different species of fish and invertebrates.
Pool work may be scheduled for a Monday or Wednesday night, from 6 pm-10pm. Open water dives are generally scheduled for a Saturday or Sunday.
If you are already a certified diver, this is also a great way to share your passion with a loved one. Discover SCUBA classes make the perfect gift!
Private Classes ONLY
This class is ideal for a person with a busy schedule who may not be able to commit 3 weeks to a dive shop hosted group class. For this class you are required to do the bookwork and watch
the DVD at home. Then you will get to set the days and times we meet to do the classroom academics.
The pool sessions have to be Mondays and Wednesdays, 8pm-9:30pm, but you are free to set the dates for the pool sessions as well as the open water dives.
I find this class to be the best way to learn as you are one-on-one with the instructor at all times.
This class is designed to allow the diver to gain practical diving experience under supervision.
You may choose to do one adventure dive at a time, or any three adventure dives to receive an Adventure Diver
certification. If you complete five dives (three electives and two required) you will earn the rating of Advanced Open Water Diver.
Deep and Navigation Dives are required for all Advanced Open Water certifications, but they are coupled with three
electives that give you a customized choice for your training interests: Please note that each adventure dive counts as one dive toward completing a Specialty Dive
Certification for that particular specialty. (Specialty courses usually require 4 dives each to obtain
certification.)

Entering the Divemaster program is your first step into the professional world of SCUBA diving. This course is divided into knowledge
development, water skills and stamina, and practical application sections.
A number of PADI instructors conduct this class on a set schedule, but I have found over years that a free and independent schedule
works best. Using this style, I become more of a mentor than your instructor.
Our first meeting is an orientation of the course. It will be fully explained to you and the requirements will be detailed in handouts.
PADI has done an excellent job with its Divemaster material and you will find any answers you need in their DM packet.
Additional classes and pool and open water sessions will be scheduled as you move forward in the program.
Prerequisites:
- 18 years or older
- Medical clearance for diving signed by a physician
- Advanced Open Water Diver
- Rescue Diver
- Minimum of 20 documented/logged dives
- Proof of Emergency First Response (EFR) course taken in the past 24 months
Certification Requirements:
- 60 logged dives
- Documented experience in night diving, deep diving, and underwater navigation
- Read and agree to abide by the PADI Membership and License Agreement
- Proof of Emergency First Response (EFR) course taken in the past 24 months
After successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Independently guide open water divers on local orientation or fun dives
- Assist a Teaching status PADI Instructor in the confined and open water training of divers
- Independently conduct Discover Scuba Diving classes
- Work on a dive boat as a on deck DM or water DM
- Much, much more!
The master scuba diver program is for divers who may not want to become a professional diver, but still gain the experience and knowledge.
You may set your own schedule to obtain this rating. Certification is given after
successful completion of 5 specialties.
Prerequisites:
- 12 years or older
- Completed medical statement
- Jr. Rescue Diver or Rescue Diver
- Certification in at least 5 specialties
- 50 logged dives
The purpose of this class is to familiarize divers with skills, knowledge, planning, techniques, problems, and hazards of diving on Wrecks.
All knowledge development must be completed independently before class. We will meet one day for classroom and, if needed, one pool session. This will be followed by 4 (no decompression) wreck dives.

All Knowledge Reviews must be read and completed before class. The
academics will be divided into theoretical knowledge and hands-on equipment
configuration. If needed, we will have one pool session. The class requires a minimum of four open water dives to complete successfully.
